Under general direction, the National Business Development Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategies for new revenue generation in the Government segment. Calls on prospect customers at all levels of the client organization (C-level, Procurement, Field Service, etc.), assesses customer needs, develops proposals (including customized and complex technical bids), establishes new customers as national accounts, and provides technical support post sale. Achieves financial targets. Accountable for leading cross-functional teams with a thorough technical and commercial knowledge of all phases of the sales cycle. Provides guidance to personnel with less knowledge in solving complex problems.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify state and government opportunities, distributors, and dealer networks that are strong in state and local markets, and find sales channels to reach end-users with their government.
  • Establish and manage relationships with colleges and universities that have relationships with distributors and work with OEM on the direct side in the IDC - Industrial Dealer Channel.
  • Negotiates and closes contracts.
  • Grows revenue in assigned industry vertical, achieves contribution margin target.
  • Implements placement of new and existing products and programs with prospective customers.
  • Supervises the involvement of cross-functional personnel within Generac to meet performance objectives and customer expectations.
  • Drives customer service execution to ensure issue resolution. Analyzes the current business environment to implement new strategies for customer service.
  • Develops accurate and detailed metrics for effective financial forecasting and resource allocation.
  • Forecasts, develops, manages and achieves budget.
  • Manages sales pipeline for consistent flow of sales opportunities.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of sales experience selling directly into the assigned industry
  • Travel required; 50% or greater


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of government cycles
  • Cooperative purchasing and contract negotiation experience
  • Significant established relationships in assigned industry

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Excellent negotiation skills;
  • Ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial culture;
  • Knowledge of the internal processes and systems that support sales accounts

Compensation: 

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in California is $127,900-159,00 USD. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.


Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
