Generac Grid Services (GGS) is seeking a Software Product Manager to join the Product team and bring a strong developer advocacy to the team, the software platform and its APIs, and the integration partner ecosystem as key users of the platform. This is a highly visible and technical role within a dynamic, fast-paced, innovative software company with offices located in beautiful Denver, CO and Vancouver, BC. The position will report directly to the VP of Product. 


As the Technical Product Manager and developer advocate, you will be responsible for representing, developing and prioritizing the integration and platform requirements for the ecosystem of integration partners, and for providing direct advocacy and support for the developer community integrating their distributed energy resources and other related grid systems to the GGS platform.  You will work closely with the business development team as they establish, maintain and grow current and new ecosystem integration partner relationships. You will provide technical product expertise to the partner around API integration to our platform, core platform operations and functionality, and be a point-of-contact liaison with the partner's engineering team and with other GGS controls engineering personnel involved with field integration activities. You will also partner and interact closely with the GGS engineering team and software architects in defining the platform API roadmap to meet market, partner, and other non-functional requirements, such scalability, performance, reliability targets.

This role will be measured on business goals associated with growing the ecosystem partner community, increasing the ease of integration to and usability of our platform APIs, and building a vibrant and collaborative developer community.

It is expected this position will include occasional travel up to 25% primarily within North America for partner and/or key customer meetings.

  • Understanding of interactions and design standards for web/cloud-based APIs strongly desired
  • Exposure to common programming languages used on the web (Python, Java, Ruby, Go, etc)
  • Understanding of cloud computing tools (Lambda, EC2, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills, and must be able to easily interact with people in either oral (including semi-formal presentation) or written form
  • Able to establish and leverage relationships with development team members and external business partners
  • Ability to effectively lead and achieve results through collaboration and influence even when there is no explicit reporting relationship
  • Must be energetic, enthusiastic, and have the ability to work both independently and with others, face-to-face and remotely

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience in Product Management or Engineering

    Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

    • Gathering, maintaining and prioritizing market and partner product and program requirements into the product vision and roadmap, leading to a world-class developer experience for ecosystem partners
    • Working directly with GGS engineering team and working groups on API related decisions, direction, and enhancements
    • Working directly with scrum team product owners to translate epic level requirements into story level detail
    • Working directly with the business development team to build and grow relationships with new and existing ecosystem partners
    • Contributing to integration design specifications and write related Epic documentation for internally led and developed integration efforts; coordinate overall internal integration design process with all stakeholders
    • Front-line partner developer liaison, providing support, training, documentation, etc. regarding the platform API and integration approaches
    • Developing and publish scripts and example code “snippets” to aid communication of best practices for integration to the platform API
    • Leading and advancing the GGS SDK Developer Program for the ecosystem partner community of developers
    • Operational support including product education and communications to internal organizations

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.  The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus.
