The Test Engineering Manager will be directly involved in the testing and overall validation of our Chore Business Group (outdoor power equipment) products. This person will be a hands-on leader who will drive component and system validation, conduct testing, perform root cause analysis, and develop solutions for any issues identified during the validation process. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Designs and directs the work of the team. Selects, coaches, and develops staff, sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate 
  • Manages performance, recognizes achievement, provides feedback, and administers progressive discipline when necessary 
  • Manages and participates hands-on in product development and validation testing including: developing and refining test procedures, procuring resources and equipment, setting up test systems, conducting testing, trouble-shooting complex issues, and identifying solutions 
  • Documents test results and issues, driving the resolution of test issues and escalating as needed 
  • Develops deep knowledge of current and future products and provides technical guidance to the team 
  • Creates and maintains a team culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement, commitment, and a sense of urgency toward goals and continuous improvement
  • Fosters collaboration between engineering sites, sales, operations, finance, and other departments 
  • Identifies and procures a wide range of field-testing sites, which may require travel
  • Develops department budget yearly and conducts budget reforecast as needed
  • Maintains and registers fleet trucks and trailers
  • Utilizes company vehicles to tow small and medium sized trailers
  • Provides technical support and transportation for the marketing photo and video shoots
  • Provides technical support for trade shows
  • Oversees maintenance and upgrades to the engineering development lab and sop areas
  • Maintains the inventory of test equipment and test articles

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors' degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline 
  • 10 years of engineering experience 
  • Prior management experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering theory and principles 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating, maintenance safety, and procedure manuals
  • Experience in documenting outcome of product tests 
  • Ability to routinely speak in an effective manner before small client groups, vendors, or senior leadership 
  • Leadership skills and the proven ability to lead a small technical team 
  • Knowledge of component and system test procedures 
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues 
  • Ability to setup test systems and conduct tests on complex systems 
  • Ability to operate safely in testing environment working with gas and electric powered equipment
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend ,or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. 

Up to 10% travel required. 

Must be able to maintain a valid Driver's license.
