Neurio, a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems, is seeking an Intermediate Hardware Engineer to design the next generation of renewable energy control and metering products.  The ideal candidate for this role is passionate in our technology space, self-motivated, and is a collaborative problem solver with excellent communication skills.  As a member of a growing hardware team distributed between Vancouver, Canada, and Portland, Maine, this role will be instrumental in shaping the future of the emergent home energy space.

This position is based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and validate our next generation of energy metering and load control products with our team of passionate electrical and mechanical engineers.  
  • Deliver schematic and layout designs with focus on reliability, DFM and quality
  • Develop tests to stress products and ensure they meet our standard for robustness and reliability
  • Work with the certification lab to ensure the product is built to domestic and international safety and radio standards
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing test team to ensure the product is designed for test and assembly
  • Contribute the necessary drawings and BOMs to transition the design from prototype to commercialized product along side the NPI team.
  • Support Supply Chain to select components and negotiate prices with suppliers
  • Minimal Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Applied Science degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics engineering or related discipline
  • 2 years experience in electronics design building products using components such as microcontrollers, microprocessors, Wi-Fi/BLE radios, AC/DC power supplies and ADCs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Adept in PCB design (Altium) and Python
  • Experience performing bench level measurements for bring-up and debug
  • Experience building product in the renewable energy or smart grid spaces
  • Experience performing validation and test on mains-powered equipment using equipment such as oscilloscopes, programmable power supply, signal generators
  • Experience with domestic and global sourcing for quality, scale, and cost reduction
  • Experience with safety and radio standards such as UL, CSA, FCC and IC 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of the principles of AC power, power conversion, and residential-scale energy storage
  • Familiar with the principles of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Test
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
