- Creating and maintaining CAD models, drawings, and BOMs.
- Supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).
- Interfacing with internal company personnel.
- Provide technical support for assigned projects.
- Participate in design reviews.
- Troubleshoot designs to the component level.
- Create PC based testing tools.
- Create and modify schematics using CAD tools.
- Utilizes simulation tools.
- Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize basic designs for manufacturability.
- Take part in Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test Activities.
- Ensures project documentation, test procedures and manuals are accurate and complete.
- Conducts and evaluates test specification including testing firmware/hardware.
- Create, design and develops test specifications for new systems and system components.
- Design circuits encompassing power electronics.
- Design embedded circuits encompassing both analog and digital circuitry.
- Design embedded circuits using microprocessors/microcontrollers.
- Specifies components and circuit designs, tests, and integrates individual circuits to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness in meeting requirements, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
- Provide new product development support, specific to controls in the Industrial, Commercial, Residential and/or Retail generator or Power Tool product area including:
- Occasional Travel to other Generac facilities and customer site visits as necessary.
- Mentors less experience engineers.
- Supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or directly related Engineering degree.
- 5 years of experience designing analog and/or digital hardware.
- Experience in both analog and digital design utilizing microcontrollers.
- Experience of microprocessor hardware interfacing techniques (e.g. IIC, SPIbus, EEprom, etc.).
- Experience in new product design and development.
- Experience with schematic capture tools such as Altium Designer.
- Experience in specifying and reviewing PCB layouts for critical spacing for signal integrity and minimizing EMC issues.
- Experience in high-speed logic/bus design.
- Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to translate technical information to all audiences.
- Uses intermediate engineering principles.
- Able to solve intermediate engineering problems; good decision-making skills.
- Advanced knowledge of communication protocols/hardware interface.
- Advanced ability to write test firmware to test hardware designs.
- Advanced ability to use FMEA/DFMEA tools.
